A vital Ayrshire charity has smashed its £4,000 fundraising target as it prepares for a big Sleep Out event later this month.

Harbour Ayrshire, which works with individuals recovering from addiction issues, was formed in 2022.

It is now hosting its first ever sponsored Harbour Sleep Out, in partnership with Ayr United, Ayr Rugby Club and Ayr Cricket Club.

The event at Dam Park Stadium on Friday, May 17 aims to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness and addiction, and help raise funds to support the work of the charity.

The charity is now aiming to raise £5,000, after its fundraising target was smashed more than two weeks before the big day.

A spokesperson said: "We have smashed the 4K Target! You kind souls have helped us raise a whopping £4,317 so far. Can we push to the 5k mark?

"The event will allow us to create awareness and raise funds for the amazing work being carried out throughout Ayrshire empowering individuals with drug and alcohol addiction, assisting them to become independent and supporting their integration back into the community."
